Beauty Buys Gift Guide

I had to put together a guide specifically dedicated to beauty gifts. They can be an affordable gift on their own to send to a friend or place on a coworker’s desk. They can fit in a stocking, or can be a larger gift as a kit. Many are products I swear by, while others are from brands I love.

Gift Sets

Kits can introduce someone to their new favorite brand. While it’s of course cheaper to buy in bulk, a kit can be an affordable way to give a more grand gift. They can be stately when wrapped under the tree. I’m especially impressed by the packaging of the Grown Alchemist kit and the Oribe kit.

Makeup

When choosing makeup, it’s best to give items that would look great on a range of skin tones and textures. Instead of a matte lipstick or a bold eyeshadow, I tried to find buildable, natural products. A few of my all-time favorite beauty picks are the Naked 2 Basics palette and the Glossier Cloud Paint. Pretty much anything by Glossier, honestly.

Skincare

I have used the Slip silk sleep mask all year, and I love the gold version. My grandmother swore by using silk pillowcases, as she believed they fought wrinkles. Slip also makes a silk sleep mask and pillowcase kit, to battle wrinkles and hair frizz simultaneously. A different kind of gold eye mask is the LA PURE 24K Gold Eye Treatment Mask, which treats puffiness in the most decadent way possible.

Fragrance

I narrowed my fragrance list down to my all-time favorites. The Rose 31 by Le Labo is unisex, making it a useful gift for a couple. The rollerball version of Maison Louis Marie No.04 makes a thoughtful gift, as it can be carried in a purse more easily than a bottle of perfume. Gabrielle by Chanel is my newest scent I own, and symbolically represents the real person behind the pseudonym Coco Chanel.

Hair

I used an entire bottle of the Money Maker hairspray this year, and my hair hasn’t been the same ever since I ran out. It is a flexible hold, but makes your hair lay quite nicely. I use the Drybar detangling brush, which does not tug or break your hair (also designed to work well with extensions). For anyone with dry, damaged or highlighted hair, Olaplex No.3 is a deeply hydrating hair mask.

Nails

The J.Hannah nail polish is a nearly clear coat that adds a bit of gold sparkle. The Essie gel polish made my nails grow out to their longest length ever in my life; it gave my nails flexibility and strength. I also am eyeing the Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream.

Children's Gift Guide (Under 5 Years old)

At this stage in my life, I’m Aunt Bethany. I have two amazing nieces (an almost-seven-year-old and a one-month-old). In order to uphold my status as the cool aunt, I aim to find gifts that my nieces will love and also will not impede the home decor of the parent. Zack (aka the cool uncle) helped me find some ideas for boys as well.

Play

The Twilight Buddies Lamb projects actual constellations around the room (I totally wish it was socially acceptable for me to have one of these). The White Sailing Ship Kite is an upgrade to a standard kite, as it looks like it’s sailing through the sky. I tried to find toys in a wide range of prices, and mostly made of wood or cloth. In the past I’ve given wooden items to teethers, depending on the polish and size.

Hats

Zack and I had way too much fun picking these out (guess which one of us found the batman hat). Noble Carriage has classy and clever options, including this bunny hat, and the crown hat (made from soft Alpaca) reminds me of Jughead from Riverdale, tbh!

Read

Crate&Kids is now my go-to for beautiful children’s books. They have a copy of Madeline and this charming bio on Coco Chanel that is definitely on my to-be-read list :) . And of course, I had to include Winnie the Pooh, as they can cherish it their whole life with proper care. Just maybe hand it to the parent to put on a shelf for now.

And that’s it! I hope that this was an inspiration. I enjoyed the challenge of finding classic gifts that bring calm and peace in a busy market. Let me know in the comments of any great brand recommendations.

I hope you love the pieces included below. These are all of the gifts that are on my wishlist, as well as some I have purchased. Hopefully this helps cross a few more names off your to-shop-for list! And don’t forget about the men in your life with Zack’s recommended men’s gift guide.

OUTERWEAR

I gravitate toward minimal coats like the Madewell Monsieur Coat, but I am certainly not opposed to a cropped teddy coat or faux fur option like the Sézane Lio. When giving hats and gloves as presents, I opt for neutral shades of cashmere or soft wool like the Everlane Beanie.

FOOTWEAR

Ever since the weather changed, my feet have been so cold at all times. I’ve finally found the perfect pair of slippers from Mahabis, which has a sneaker-like sole. That is essential for people who are home all day like me who also need some support. PS, I had to put in at least one pair of Nisolos…I’ve been such a fan of the heeled Chelsea boot that I want to try the standard version.

Clothing

The Everlane Oversized Alpaca Sweater has been one of their best-sellers, which is a great hint that the recipient will love it (it’s certainly on my wishlist this year!). Clothing items can be difficult to give to someone since the fit and taste are specific, so pajamas are a safe bet. If you want to give a chic sweater, try one of the Sézane jumpers with detachable collars.

Candles

I always have a candle burning. Candles start my day with a good mood on a quiet early morning, and accompany me while I’m reading before bed (I’m currently reading the biography Being Elvis). They can make foolproof gifts, as they are home gifts that don’t stick around forever. The Diptyque Roses candle is on my wishlist, and I keep returning to Paddywax for their clean burning options.

ACCESSORIES

I don’t allow myself to go out of the house without at least one piece of jewelry. It sounds extra, but this quick step adds a level of class to any outfit. Vrai & Oro is one of my favorite places to look for jewelry, and their thick rings are an upgrade to my everyday brass ones. I’ve also been dreaming about Estée’s new Daisy jewelry line, especially the everyday earrings.

Home

Zack and I have been carefully curating our apartment by choosing new pieces of furniture as well as decorations. Our living space is small, and we have been here for a while, but it has amazed us how even buying a new table lamp makes our home feel new again. Here are some of the home items that are still on our wishlist.

Beauty and Self Care

Okay, I have a full list of beauty items coming soon, but here are just a few for now that I’ve been wanting to try. A couple of new clean beauty brands I’ve been eyeing are Goop (designed by Gwyneth Paltrow) and Caudalie’s Vinopure line.

Zack's Complete Men's Gift Guide

Zack here today. Bethany asked me to put together a complete men’s gift guide, and I had a great time collecting a huge list of pieces to help with shopping for your guy this holiday season. I may be biased, but I think it may be the best one out there. ;)

You will not find any cheesy t-shirts, beer mugs or meat subscriptions on this list. I wanted to collect a group of gifts of all different price ranges that any man would love… no matter their age or responsibilities in life. These are all things I either own personally or are on my wishlist this Christmas.

I tried to give a good selection of many different categories (including stocking stuffers) so you wouldn’t need to go looking elsewhere. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer. Let’s get started!

Outerwear

Shearling and denim coats are in this season with such a focus on western this fall and winter. There is something timeless about both these options, and they only get better the longer you wear them and break them in. I also threw in a few more conventional coats.

Footwear

When it comes to winter footwear, I tend to stick to more high top boots and shoes. I have owned many pairs of the J.Crew MacAlister Boot. It is really a staple in my closet and goes with everything. The Black Chelseas are a perfect timeless style, and the high top sneakers would be a great gift for a man who is not into boots. I added a pair of slippers as well… but these are not your typical pair of slippers. They have a sneaker sole, making them perfect to wear around the house all day.

Tops

For tops, I wanted to give a great mix of options. As you can see throughout this guide, I tend to have a very curated color scheme in my closet (like Bethany), but most of these pieces have multiple color options if the man you are shopping for has a different taste. Personally, I live in henleys in the winter and pull out a hoodie layered under a lighter coat when I need to leave the house.

Bottoms

Black washed jeans are a wardrobe staple for me, but during the fall and winter I like to try out cords and bring in more browns and tans. I have never been a blue jeans guy but I added a few in since it is a go-to for many men. I also included a pair of nice sweats for the cold days indoors.

Accessories

The Nisolo Luis Weekender has been on my wishlist for a long time. It would be perfect for holiday travel. Bethany often talks about how gold jewelry can take any basic outfit up a notch. A minimal watch or simple silver pendant necklace can do the same for men.

Self care

Self care habits are something that will help any man… sadly many do not understand the importance. They help him stand apart from the crowd, kick each day’s butt, and always ups his confidence/ attractiveness. The perfect scent often leads to people taking him more seriously, and skincare will keep him looking younger well into his middle ages. Also, unless he is a musician, no dude should be walking around with long nails. No… just no lol. Below I gave a few options to help with all of these areas.

Tech Stuff

Every guy loves tech gifts. Here are just a few that I own or would love. We use our Amazon Echo Dot daily and my Apple Airpods are constantly in my ears. If your guy is a light sleeper, the sound machine is a dream gift. I gave my dad the beer tap (yeah, I had to include one) for Christmas last year, and he loves it.

Books & Magazines

I wish I read more. This is definitely something Bethany is much better at than me. I honestly have a hard time slowing down and taking the time to do it. Here are a few books I have read or are on my reading list. Lonesome Dove has been called the greatest western ever written. The Millionaire Next Door is a book I have read multiple times and is such an eye opener about personal finance. It will change his life. Anything Gary Vee writes is gold and a perfect gift for any entrepreneur.

Stocking Stuffers

Stocking stuffers for men can be a tough one to find. There are many a corny gifts out there to choose from, and I tried my best to avoid them. A minimal mug is always a winner in my book. Cigar shaped chocolates is a fun Secret Santa option. The runners spybelt is great for any athlete who loves to carry his phone with him while working out.

That is it. I really hope this list helps you as you are buying gifts for the men in your life this holiday season. Again, if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments, and I’ll do my best to get back to you.

I cannot thank you all enough for being so amazing to Bethany. It makes my heart so happy to see all the kindness and positivity you all send to her on a daily basis. It means more than you know. Until next time.

kindly, Zack
